It’s interesting how simply posting “Eat mor chikin!” on Facebook will make people delete you. I think it’s obvious that I am a Christian. With that will come many typical Christian beliefs, including homosexuality is sin. Call me a bigot, hater, intolerant or whatever you want but I won’t argue why it is a sin because that’s not what I’m writing this for. For some, this whole Chick-Fil-A mess seems to have blown into a Christianity vs Gay battle. I can’t speak for all Christians but I don’t think that’s what it’s about.
I am NOT supporting Chick-Fil-A as a fight against homosexuals.
I am NOT supporting Chick-Fil-A to fight for civil liberties.
I am NOT supporting Chick-Fil-A to slap “the faces of a specific group of people because they’re different from me” as someone assumed.
I AM supporting Chick-Fil-A because I want my brothers to know that there are other Christians who also care about biblical convictions.
I AM supporting Chick-Fil-A because I want to encourage them to stay strong in their convictions.
I AM supporting Chick-Fil-A because I don’t want to see anyone compromise their biblical conviction because of the threat of loss in sales (or any other threat).
The homosexuality debate will never end; neither party will never come to an agreement. So what is our responsibility as Christians? Do we fight for Christian values? Do we fight for freedom of speech? For a Christian government? Better quality of life? Our battle is not against a government, group of people, or specific sin. Our battle is spiritual (Eph 6:12). I am totally for a government guided by the Bible but that won’t change people. Laws don’t change people; even Christian laws. They will never produce true righteousness or unity. Sometimes I even question whether Christians should be so actively involved in politics. I don’t know but that’s whole different topic.
Our job is not to merely show that homosexuality is sin. Our job is to show that Christ is greater than any sin, including homosexuality. It’s to spread the good news of redemption, freedom and love found only in Christ so that they can experience it for themselves. No government, law, politician, system, philosophy or group will ever solve our slavery of sin. Go ahead, support freedom of speech and support Christian values but never forget what the real battle is or you’ll get distracted.
“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.” - 2 Timothy 2:8-10
